The Pennsylvania Institute of Massage Therapy's curriculum is uniquely different from other massage curriculums and ensures that our graduates are well equipped to work effectively in any Massage environment including Spa, Private Practice, Doctor's Office, Corporate Massage, etc. This is accomplished by having a broad-based curriculum which focuses on Massage Technique as well as having a strong foundation in Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology. This ensures that the graduate understands the physiological changes which occur in the client as the result of various types of Massage Therapy; and therefore enables the Therapist to assess the client and deliver the appropriate Massage modality. Additionally, there are several pathologies which present a contraindication to Massage, or which require modification of technique. We are also one of the longest running Massage programs in this region (we must be doing something right!).
Also, as a part of the core curriculum we have a 6 week intensive portion which covers advanced Massage Techniques including Active Isolated Stretching and Orthopedic Massage as well as guest lecturers who introduce the student to Reflexology, Trigger Point Therapy, and Myofascial Release. In other words, our students graduate with knowledge that gives them a substantial advantage over their peers.
Massage Instructors are licensed Massage Therapists (LMTs) who have years of experience in practice. They are all seasoned instructors with a wealth of accumulated knowledge.
Anatomy & Physiology instructors are Chiropractors who have years of clinical experience, as well as the off-hand knowledge which enables them to explain concepts clearly and accurately to their students.
